01.08.10 | Toseland battles back for fifth
Britains only double World Superbike Champion had a courageous fight back to score a credible fifth place finish in the second race at Silverstone today. The BKS-supported rider who finished 8th in race one, now lies 6th in the Championship standings on 179 points with three rounds remaining.
From 12th on the grid, James got away well at the start the first 18 lap race, fighting his way up to 6th by the mid-point. After a battle with Leon Camier on the Aprilia, James slipped down to 7th on lap 11 before duelling with the Ducati of Carlos Checa, finally finishing in 8th.
An even better start to race two saw James jump up into 9th by the end of the opening lap and he continued to make rapid progress through the field. James continued to fight right throughout the race, passing and re-passing a number of riders. In the closing stages he enjoyed a close battle Leon Haslam on the Suzuki, seeing him cross the line on the grass and eventually losing out on 4th by just 0.026s.
On the days events James said, "It's not been the weekend I had hoped for. It started really promising, being at the top end of the timesheets, but with the crash in qualifying yesterday, the races today were always going to be tough. I'm pleased with our performance in race two. I had some really good battles and the result was really close. "
"We've found something with the package this weekend that we can take to the next round at Nurburgring so I cant wait to get there now."

From were we sat too in Luffield, it looked like a good workout, and lots of fun. had a great day
just because we got to watch you. Not only that what an excellent result for the Brits, and it never made the sports pages, should be ashamed, Seriaously loved watching you, you have great pressence on and off the race track and you should never apologise when there is nothing to be sorry about, Great Effort, cant wait for the next rounds GOOD LUCK

From where we were sitting at club it was obvious you were giving it your all! It's understandable that you were disappointed especially after race 1 but there's no need to apologise...it's clear that you gave it 110% as always, so there's nothing to be sorry about. Keep your head held high JT, we're all behind you. Good luck at Nurburgring and show the rest of the pack what you're made of :)

What a shame about the crash in qualifying - you seemed to be going so well and would definitely have made it to Superpole 3. Anyway - thought the 2nd race was awesome - I can't wait to see the whole thing, rather than just the bit of the circuit we were standing at!
Bring it on - looks like the Yamaha is finally starting to come good for you!
