30.07.10 | No place like home for Toseland
Britains only Double World Superbike Champion, James Toseland, was back on the pace today for the opener of the three-day home World Superbike event at Silverstone in Northamptonshire. The Yorkshireman has been running in the top three consistently as he adapts to the revised layout of the new circuit.
Toseland finished the first free practice in second position, sandwiched between first and third placed fellow Brits Jonathan Rea and Leon Haslam, before rounding out the second session of the day in sixth position less than 0.6 seconds of pace setter and Sterilgarda Yamaha team-mate Cal Crutchlow.
The 29-year-olds return this year to the Superbike World Championship, which he won in 2004 and 2007, has been difficult with a new bike and team to adapt to as well as a couple of injuries that have been collected from accidents during the season.
However, as one of his favourite circuits, the BKS-supported rider is looking forward to re-establishing himself as a strong title contender at Silverstone this weekend in front of a home crowd.
"We've had a really good day and a great start to the only home round of the season,"" said James. I'm determined to make up for the disappointment of the last two years and repay the fans for their loyalty throughout my MotoGP years this weekend, so it would be fantastic to thank everybody with two podium finishes."
"I'm feeling back to full fitness now and I think Im in the right place to return to winning ways. Today has been a positive start to build on and the Yamaha seems to work well round the new Silverstone circuit configuration. The support for this weekend has already been amazing and Im looking forward to tomorrow and race day."
