29.05.10 | Toseland Gets To Grips with Miller

Yamaha Sterilgarda rider, James Toseland, got his first taste of the Miller Motorsports circuit in the USA today, as he got down to business in the first qualifying session for Round 7 of the World Superbike Championship. With a best time of 1:48.887, the double World Champion finished the opening day 7th.

Toseland put in a remarkable performance on his first ever visit to the track in Salt Lake City, Utah. Despite no track knowledge, the British rider spent a good part of the mornings free practice session in the top three riders, and continued to display consistent fast pace in the afternoons qualifying despite a small crash near the end of the session. He ended the day in seventh position, less than four tenths of a second off provisional pole, and just two tenths off team mate Crutchlow.

On his progress so far, the BKS-supported rider commented, Ive never been too bad at learning circuits, but its been pretty impressive for some of the guys including Frankie my Crew Chief as its their first time here too. To get the bike running as well as it was today is great, fair play to them. Im a bit annoyed with myself for the crash as I dont usually make mistakes like that, I just got a bit excited as the bike was feeling so good. I thought I could go round the corner a bit faster than the package could, I think I was 17 years old the last time my enthusiasm outmatched my talent! All in all a good day, Im pleased with the progress and its a great track, the bike works really well round here.
