15.05.10 | Front Row for Toseland at Kyalami
Britains double World Superbike Champion, James Toseland, put in a brave performance in South Africa today to secure 2nd on the grid for tomorrows two races. Still feeling the effects of his crash in Monza last weekend, the Sterilgarda Yamaha rider missed out on pole position by just 0.017s.
James, who is supported by BKS, made it through to Superpole 3 lying just outside the top 5. During the final 10 minute shoot-out session the Yorkshireman needed just one flying lap to produce his best time of 1:37.260. Although initially good enough for pole, James was eventually pushed down into 2nd, still his best qualifying performance of the season so far.
First of all I would like to thank the medics and the clinic that travels with the World Superbike Championship, for fixing me after my crash at Monza last weekend. When I was laying in hospital undergoing scans and x-rays, it was touch and go whether I would race this weekend. So Im very happy not only to make it here, but of course to be on the front row.
Ive been a bit out of sorts this weekend, but I gave myself a good talking to and pulled myself together before Superpole.
Frankie and the team have had to put up with a pretty grumpy JT, but they've given me a good bike and I now feel that with some small changes in warm-up, we are in with a good shot tomorrow.
Tyres will be the biggest issue for us, as we do not know how the package we have found will work. We have not actually made a decision yet on which tyres we will use for the race. But things are moving in the right direction and once the lights go out tomorrow, I'll give it everything.

Well done James - shame it wasn't pole, but Sterilgarda Yamaha pole and 2nd can't be bad! Hope your neck isn't too painful for the race tomorrow. Good luck!
