14.05.10 | Toseland Back in Action at Kyalami

Yamaha Sterilgarda rider James Toseland had a steady start to Round 6 of the World Superbike Championship at Kyalami today. Climbing aboard his YZF-R1 for the first time since his Race Two crash in Monza just five days ago, James finished the day 15th fastest with a best time of 1'39.656.

The first practice session of the weekend saw the BKS-supported rider run consistently in the top ten early on before ending in 13th with a time of 1'40.645. James immediately bettered this in the second session, eventually setting his fastest time of the weekend so far on lap 21 or 24.

Although still feeling the effects of his recent crash, James is confident of a strong performance in qualifying tomorrow.

Its been a normal Friday for us; weve had a good day of working on settings. My Crew Chief Frankie has been pushing me to evaluate a lot of different options and Im pleased with what weve found. Tomorrow well put together everything we learnt today and luckily the weather is looking like itll be dry so well have plenty of time to get to where we need to be. Doing a single fast lap is not so much of an issue. The problem will be tyre wear over a 24-lap race distance. So thats what weve been concentrating a lot on today.

My shoulders, neck and back have been slightly painful on the bike, which is to be expected. I guess I over anticipated how fit Id be. Its been 8 years since I last rode at Kyalami and Id forgotten how bumpy and demanding it is. But Im feeling optimistic and positive about tomorrow. I just need to rest this evening, get an early night, and make sure Im fresh and ready for another day.
