09.05.10 | Celebrations and commiserations for Toseland in Monza

Sterilgarda Yamahas James Toseland continued his return to form at Monza in Italy today with a second place finish for his third consecutive podium in the 2010 Superbike World Championship. He fought hard with eventual race winner Max Biaggi, team-mate Cal Crutchlow and championship leader Leon Haslam but held his position to the chequered flag.

Despite being happy to return to the podium, the determined Brit confessed to being back to his old self by becoming frustrated at not yet winning a race. He lined up for race two with a strong focus on securing that elusive victory, but his efforts were thwarted early when he was caught up in a multi-rider crash at the first corner on the opening lap of the 18-lap race.

The Brit got away from the grid cleanly but had his front brake clipped by another rider as he turned into the first corner, causing the Yamaha to lock up and send him sliding off track along with several other World Superbike contenders. The BKS-supported rider walked away from the racing incident with no major physical injuries but was taken to the local hospital for a CT scan to check that he is safe to race next week after suffering concussion from the crash.

Having briefly moved up to fourth overall in the championship after race one, a lack of points in race two means that Toseland moved back down the standings to remain in fifth.

Wot a great ride u had in race 1.. Was gutted for u in race 2.. Hope both your scans come back clear and that your fully fit for the next race.. Take care..x

well boy, you need to get on to the front row, then it would be easy to show just how good you are. starting down the field gives you to much to do and you then put yourself at risk by riding so hard, as in monza race two. get your act together and start winning boy.

Good job in race 1 - shame about race 2, but s*** happens in racing! Corners straight after the start are definitely dangerous! Hope that you are OK for Kyalami and that the volcano behaves itself. That crash could have been a lot worse, and did look bad on TV as you seem to be clipped on the head by the following bike. Keep smiling!
