08.05.10 | Seventh heaven for Toseland

Sterilgada Yamahas James Toseland will start tomorrows races at Monza in Italy from seventh position on the second row of the grid after making it into Superpole 3 for the first time since returning to the Superbike World Championship at the start of the season.

The Brit has shown a return to form after claiming two podium positions with a second and third place finish at the last race at Assen in Netherlands. He has travelled to Monza in confident mood with the aim of securing more podium finishes to increase his championship points haul.

The Isle of Man resident returned to the pits in the dying minutes of the session to fit a qualifying tyre in order to improve his qualifying position. However, with less than two minutes remaining when he returned to the track, Toseland was unable to pass the chequered flag in time for a final flying lap ahead of the chequered flag.

I feel a bit frustrated with how Superpole went but I cant complain because it is my best qualifying position of the year, said James. A technical problem meant that Ive been unable to run the bike with the same set-up that I will use when I ride it in the warm up tomorrow. On that basis I feel very optimistic for the two races and, as Monza is in Sterilgarda Yamahas backyard, I want to have two strong races with good result for the massive crowd of supporters that the team has got here in Italy.
