25.04.10 | Dutch courage for Toseland
Sterilgada Yamahas James Toseland secured a hard-earned double podium finish at round four of the Superbike World Championship at Assen today, while proving that he still has the grit and determination required for championship contention in two fiercely fought battles for second and third place finishes respectively.
The determined Yorkshireman powered his way from tenth to sixth position from the grid in the days opening Superbike race, before picking up a further place on lap two of the 22-lap showdown to begin his battle for a top three finish at the chequered flag.
BKS-supported Toseland fought hard for the duration of the race before briefly seizing the lead from eventual race winner Jonathan Rea with just three laps to go. However, the factory Yamaha rider was unable to hold on to his position at the front of the pack. Refusing to give in, Toseland battled to the end to cross the finish line in second place.
There was more of the same in race two, with a seven-way dice for the lead in a thrilling 22 laps that ended in the second all British podium of the day. Despite riding on the limit throughout the race, Toseland was pushed back to fourth position from podium contention by Leon Camier with just two laps to go. However, Camier suffered a high-speed crash on the penultimate lap, leaving the way clear for the Sterilgada Yamaha to fight off attention from experienced riders Max Biaggi and Troy Camier to hang on to his top three placing at the chequered flag.
The results mean that Toseland has moved up to fifth place overall in the championship, just 17 points behind fourth-placed
Its been a long weekend, said James, but to come from tenth on the grid and finish in second and third places is a great result for the team. Its been coming slowly, but its nice to get two consistent results after a difficult start to the season. I did predict at the start of the season that we would see some all Brit podiums and its happened today. Theres a lot of Brits out there but were all racing at the front and we all deserve to be here. Its fantastic for the British fans and Im sure the others are looking forward to the home round at Silverstone as much as me. Its great to be back where we should be and well be pushing for more of the same.

Welldone, but can you have a lonely ride out front next time so we're not quite so stressed watching you.

Very well done and deserved. I couldn't watch the last laps and kept asking my husband what was going on. I think I need a pacemaker to support you. Nonetheless, great grit and determination and there aren't words to describe both rides at Assen. Bring it on - hope you can get a bit more speed on the Yamaha before the next round!!!!
